The hills were alive with the Sound of Music.

Dinner was at the restaurant at the Hotel as we felt we had walked enough. The waiter was very entertaining however i think me and the German language require a lot of practice. The food came out and it looked like a pub meal from the '80s but tasted wonderful. Jäger shots to end the meal and bed time as we had a big day planned for Sunday.




Up nice and early and walked up to the Mirabell Gardens to buy tickets for the Hop On Hop Off Sound of Music tour bus. First we went into the gardens and saw the fountain from the movie.....seems much smaller than when the Von Trapps danced and sang around it. A beautiful garden area.




Onto the bus which takes you around to various places that were used in the movie. We were actually surprised at how many places we had already been to without realising it. You wore these little ear phones and could hear the history etc. very informative.


We stopped at the Hellbrunn Castle and took a tour around the Tricky Fountains. A beautiful garden area but with areas that unknowingly you could end up soaking wet as they have water fountains in places where you stand etc. some people were soaked and it was funny to see some reactions when they would get wet.







Next we walked to the Sound of Music Pavilion where they filmed "I am 16 going on 17". It is actually closed as too many people ended up with broken legs and ankles trying to dance on the seats.




Next a walk down the lane where the children played and where Maria walked from the bus to the house. It was beautiful and quiet. There were families walking and riding bikes and beautiful homes and cows and horses. It was lovely.




We saw the house where they filmed several of the outside scenes and then caught the bus back into Salzburg.




Walking around we realised that Salzburg even though it is a tourist town is pretty much closed on a Sunday and finally found some where to eat some lunch. Back to drop off stuff at the hotel, a quick snooze and then out for some dinner. Tomorrow we will be walking more and then off to Stuttgart.
