Visit to the Grand Mosque.

Day 2 and up bright and early, showers, breakfast and plans for today. Grand Mosque and Souk at the World Trade Centre were chosen for today.

The Mosque is about 2 Kim's away so we thought we may walk however the heat had already set in at 8.30 in the morning so we took a taxi.

Waiting at the gate for 9.00 in the heat yet in total awe of the massive and beautiful structure in front of us.




Time came and we walked the 500 or so metres up the entrance and the sweat is pouring.......when we got closer this was forgotten and we marvelled at a building so beautiful.




As we had done some research we did not have to put on the traditional clothes however I did have to put the scarf on my head.





Photos do not really do not do the sight we saw justice, the Mosque was massive, elaborate, ornate and beautiful. Inside there is the biggest carpet in the world, 5 chandeliers made from Swarovski crystals and marble everywhere. Something I think we will never experience again.

















The Mosque can have approx 55000 people in at capacity which includes the open air part. It was actually air conditioned inside which made it more bearable.

After wandering around we caught a taxi to the World Trade Centre Souk. Souk means market. It is all indoors, we were told everything is indoors as the heat is too oppressive to have markets outside. We agree. We wandered around, I got a henna hand tattoo, Dusan nearly lost his wallet, and we had an awesome lunch. Not being big on shopping centres we did not visit the other side instead choosing to go back to the hotel, 42 is way too hot to be walking around. We took it easy for the afternoon, spoke to Ana in the lounge who was great to listen to and learn from, dinner and now bed.......Paris tomorrow!!!!
