Amsterdam was a favourite of ours from the last trip so we wanted to have another look, not sure if Slovenia and Santorini have spoilt us for our fav spot but Amsterdam has slipped a little down the list. Still lovely though and would love to travel one day through the country side.
As it was an extremely early start we found a place to eat breakfast and have coffee. To many people Amsterdam is a place where you can go to coffee shops and smoke but they smell disgusting and I don't know how people can even walk in the door!
Amsterdam is also the home of Anne Frank. We wandered up pretty tree lined streets by canals and found the home where Anne and her family were hidden from the Nazi's. A very beautiful yet sad and tragic place.
After having a quick look we continued on to the flower markets and where my fav shop of all time is......the cheese shop.....and a cute little Christmas shop.
Cheese bought to take home, we strolled along more pretty streets, saw clogs.
Amsterdam do make the best chips around so of course this wicked deep fried and carb laden potato was lunch....but so yummy.
Next Andrea and I went to have a look at the Palace in Dam Square, the boys had coffees.
The Palace was beautiful.
More aimless wandering then a drink a at Beer Bar.
We had a drink at this bar last time so was nice to sit down and reminisce.
We also had a horse and cart ride through the area. Was great fun and traffic has to wait for you!
On the way back to the station a walk through the red light district. We noticed that there were lots of "rooms for rent"!!! Due to an ongoing garbage collectors strike the old city actually looked quite dirty with a lot of rubbish around, maybe this is why we thought it had lost its charm.
Train was almost 30 minutes late so a long ride home to Paris, all trying to stay awake so we could sleep when we returned. Finally arrived at Paris Nord, taxi back to gage hotel then off to bed and a rare sleep in.
